Nonprofit ROI calculator
A nonprofit ROI calculator measures the return your organization gets for what it invests — ROI = (return − investment) ÷ investment — where the return is funds raised, program value, or monetized social value. Enter two numbers and it also gives the return per $1 invested, the net return, and the cost to generate $1 of value. Everything runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
How it works
| Output | Formula | Reads as |
|---|---|---|
| ROI | (Return − Investment) ÷ Investment | e.g. 400% |
| Return per $1 invested | Return ÷ Investment | e.g. 5.0× |
| Net return | Return − Investment | e.g. $4M |
| Cost to generate 1 of value | Investment ÷ Return | e.g. 0.20 |
Steps
- Enter your return value — funds raised, program value, or the monetized social value you produced.
- Enter your investment — the campaign, program, or fundraising cost.
- Read ROI, the return ratio, net return, and cost per $1 of value — all update live.
Example: $5M raised against a $1M campaign cost → ROI 400%, 5.0× raised per $1, net return $4M, and $0.20 spent to raise each $1.
Which "return" should I use?
| Use case | Return value | Investment | Ratio means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fundraising ROI | Funds raised | Campaign cost | $ raised per $1 spent |
| Program ROI | Program value delivered | Program cost | Value per $1 spent |
| Social ROI (SROI) | Monetized social value | Money invested | SROI ratio |
For SROI you must first monetize the social value you created; this tool then turns it into the ratio. Because every calculation happens on your device, your numbers never leave the browser.
