What is this character counter?
A free, browser-based character counter built for marketers. It shows live character, word, line, and byte counts as you type — and, unlike a generic counter, it checks your text against the limits that actually matter: SEO meta title and description (by pixel width, the way Google truncates them), Google ad headlines and descriptions, and X (Twitter) posts. Everything runs locally in your browser, so your text is never uploaded.
How to use it
- Type or paste your text into the box on the left.
- Read the live counts (characters, words, lines, bytes) on the right.
- Check the marketing limits below — each row turns amber as you near the limit and red when you go over.
Common use cases
- Writing an SEO title or meta description that won't get truncated in Google results.
- Fitting ad headlines and descriptions within Google Ads character limits.
- Trimming a social post to fit within the platform's limit.
