What is this sitemap checker?
A free online tool to check an XML sitemap. Enter a sitemap URL and it fetches the file, parses it, and shows how many URLs it contains, lists those URLs, and flags formatting problems. It automatically detects whether the file is a regular sitemap (<urlset>) or a sitemap index (<sitemapindex>) and, for an index, lists the child sitemaps so you can check each one. Only the URL you enter is fetched by our server — needed to work around the browser's CORS restrictions.
How to use it
- Enter your sitemap URL (usually https://example.com/sitemap.xml).
- Press “Check sitemap” to fetch and parse it.
- Review the URL count, the list of URLs, and any validation warnings. For a sitemap index, click a child sitemap to check it.
Common use cases
- Confirming a sitemap loads and is well-formed before submitting it to Search Console.
- Checking how many URLs a sitemap contains and whether it's within the 50,000-URL limit.
- Inspecting a sitemap index and drilling into its child sitemaps.
