What is this notation variation checker?
A free, browser-based tool that finds notation variation (表記揺れ) in your text — the same term written several ways, such as ユーザー vs ユーザ, Web vs ウェブ, or お問い合わせ vs 問合せ. Paste your text and it lists each inconsistent group with a count for every variant, then lets you normalize the whole document to one chosen spelling per group. It ships with a starter ruleset and lets you add your own term groups. Everything runs locally in your browser, so your text is never uploaded.
How to use it
- Paste your text into the box on the left.
- Review the detected variation groups on the right, each with per-variant counts.
- Optionally add your own term groups (one per line, variants separated by “/” or “,”).
- Pick the canonical spelling per group, then copy or download the normalized text.
Common use cases
- Proofreading marketing copy, help docs, or release notes for consistent terminology.
- Enforcing a style guide across a team (e.g. always “サーバー”, never “サーバ”).
- Cleaning user-generated or migrated content before publishing or importing.
