What is this hiragana to katakana converter?
A free, browser-based tool that converts hiragana (あ, い, う…) into katakana (ア, イ, ウ…). Hiragana and katakana represent the same Japanese sounds, so the conversion is a direct one-to-one mapping. Characters that are already katakana, plus kanji, ASCII, symbols, and the prolonged-sound mark (ー), are left untouched. Everything runs locally in your browser, so your text is never uploaded.
How to use it
- Type or paste your text into the box on the left.
- The katakana result appears instantly on the right.
- Copy the result or download it as a text file.
Common use cases
- Generating the katakana reading column (フリガナ) for a customer or member list.
- Normalizing kana so katakana-based sorting and matching work consistently.
- Preparing katakana labels for forms, ads, or design mockups.
