What is this X character counter?
A free, browser-based counter that measures text exactly the way X (Twitter) does, not the way a generic counter does. On X, full-width and CJK characters count as 2, and every URL counts as a fixed 23 characters regardless of its real length. This tool applies that weighting live and shows how much of the 280-character budget remains. Everything runs in your browser, so your text is never uploaded.
How to use it
- Type or paste your post on the left.
- Read the weighted count and remaining characters on the right.
- If you go over, the count turns red so you know to trim before posting.
Common use cases
- Checking whether a Japanese post fits — full-width text fills the budget twice as fast.
- Counting a post with links, where each URL eats a flat 23 characters.
- Trimming a near-limit post before it gets rejected.
